Compress a PDF

Scans and photo-heavy PDFs are big because of their JPEG images. Compress shrinks those images and repacks the file structure. Text stays sharp because it is not touched.

Drop a PDF to shrink

PDF. Stays on your device.

Free: up to 10 pages per job, 3 downloads a day.

How it works

  1. Drop one PDF on the box.
  2. Pick Balanced for a modest saving or Smallest for the biggest cut.
  3. Press Compress. You see the before and after size, and the download starts.

Questions

How much smaller will it get?

A scan made of JPEG pages often drops by half or more. A PDF that is mostly text may only shrink a few percent, and you get your original back if it cannot be made smaller.

Does it lower the quality of text?

No. Only embedded JPEG photos are resized. Text and vector drawings are left alone.

Why did my file not change?

Some PDFs hold images in formats we leave alone, such as flate-compressed or CMYK images. In that case the original is returned.
